While tied up for a couple of days at the Marathon City Marina I encountered two manatees. It was a mother and calf. I have seen manatees before, but they were always a distance from the boat. These came right up to the dock and were not shy in the slightest.
I guess the main thing they were looking for was fresh water. They swam some under our boat, then under the dinghy docks. I had to leave before they did and when I returned they had moved on to another part of Boot Key harbor.
