This topic may prove difficult to complete until I purchase the boat. For now I hope to consider topics that all cruising voyages encounter and general boat expenses. When the decision as to which boat to select is complete we can revisit these topics to make sure we update the numbers and our assumptions are still valid. Certainly all the topics will be reconsidered as we get closer to the date of departure and the actual itinerary firms up (more like jello than say rock).
The operations divides into several areas for consideration. In each area, one must understand the area they intend to sail in and the conditions that they may encounter. But I am establishing the following areas:
- Ground tackle and docking equipment
- Rig, sails and propulsion
- Navigation, Weather and communications
- Crew safety (crew maintenance); maybe I’ll call it Deck and Hull…
- Heavy weather safety and sailing
- General maintenance
- And maybe passage-making (provisions, watches…)
We will jump in with Ground tackle and docking equipment…
