Cutting the Lines is Hard

We are really, really close to leaving. The house is rented and most of our stuff is stored or gone. We have places for 2 dogs that can’t make the trip; due to size or age. We are unsure of a cat. But Tybee, the cocker/poodle mix has made the cut.

But we haven’t left yet. I still have a job.

On the positive side, we are almost moved on to the boat. But getting there seems to be hard in the last weeks of land life. There are a bunch of loose ends. A car to get rid of and another to store of lend to someone until we return. Insurance for beyond the Turks and Caicos and what seems to be a million small items.

Then there is the boat. It is slammed with crap I am certain I won’t need. Instead of gifting everything we own to local charities, I guess we have decided to gift them on our way down to the Keys. Each town will get something. A roll up dinghy in Brunswick. A pot or two in Fernandina. A set of tumblers in St. Augustine.  A winter coat in West Palm. Who knows what else will not make the cut over the next 3 months. But the water line is definitely lower than it should be.

There are jobs to do, too. Trying to get a 15hp Johnson running again. Putting a 2×6 on the rail to lash jerry cans to. Finish setup of Wifi with LTE backup.  So many things. But nothing that prevents us from going to sea.

I can sand and varnish in paradise. I can install a new dual usb charging station in an anchorage. Even if I don’t do those things the boat will be fine and there will always be something to fix.

Are we ready? Past ready. Can we leave? I think we can start making our way south, still working but getting closer to the day when we don’t.
